Opening:
The meeting of the GBACC Board was called to order at 5:30 pm on August 3, 2016 by Terry Lewis.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from July 2016 were approved by motion from Ellis, second from Michelle
Approval of the Treasurer’s Report
GBACC Treasurer Ellis Burruss gave the report. The report was approved.
Open Issues
Events – Reports:
- Both the GBACC Voters Forum and the GBACC Beer and Pizza Night at Smoketown Brewing Station were considered very successful events.
Equipment acquisition Projector:
The projector has been delivered and Terry displayed it for the Board.
Purchases, Totes and Decal:
There are two confirmed sponsors for the totes, Amber Hill and the City of Brunswick; one tentative BB&T Bank. Ellis is having problems working with Signs By Tomorrow on the Logo for the decal. If he can’t make progress soon he will look for another supplier.
GBACC Advertising:
- Insert and Place Mats – Ellis advise the board he will be phasing out his offset printing machine so the insert and place mat will need to be jobbed out. A Frederick News Post insert should be done in October before the Expo so it can be advertised.
Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) – This is a more expensive way to advertise than our usual methods but it would reach more people and is very reasonable for a business compared to doing it alone. If we printed a full sheet similar to the FNP insert, but in full color, delivered to 2600 addresses, the cost to each advertiser would be $84.00 and consist of eleven (11) ads. Enough interest was expressed that a more detailed proposal will be developed.
Facebook Boosted Posting – GBACC would have a BIZ 101(see below) on the topic then offer to post a members ad on the GBACC Facebook page.
Coming Events;
BIZ 101:
- It was suggested that early October would be a good time for a BIZ 101. The topic would be “Navigating Facebook” and would explore how members can use Facebook Boosted Post to promote their business and how to design an ad. Ellis will look for an instructor for the class.
Kick Off to Railroad Days:
The Kick Off event will be Friday, September 30th, the place to be determined. EDC would like to participate in the event and give their longevity awards. It was suggested GBACC pay for the drinks, Main Street pay for the music and EDC pay for the food. GBACC usually pays the three restaurants in town $50.00 each to provide food but EDC can decide how they would like to do it. Angel will discuss this with EDC and get back to the Board. Angel will also talk with Terri Householder about a location for the kick-off. More details will be discussed at the September meeting.
Railroad Day:
Railroad Days is Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. GBACC will have a table in front of 5 West Potomac, members will be asked to volunteer to work the table and to supply business literature. The Brunswick History Commission has asked to use the inside of the building for photography.
Lovettsville Oktoberfest:
The Lovettsville Oktoberfest is October 24th and the cost of a sponsorship is $250.00. A suggestion was made to ask EDC to go in with GBACC and split the cost. Angel will ask EDC.
Adjournment:
Meeting was adjourned at 6:20 pm
The next Board meeting will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016 (Monday is Labor Day), at the GBACC Office
