The meeting of the GBACC Board was called to order at 5:36 pm on May 1, 2017 by GBACC President Terry Lewis.


Minutes from April 6, 2017 were approved as submitted.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer’s report was sent out with the agenda was amended with a correction to an April deposit and the inclusion of donation received at the Shred Day. The special donation was noted. It will be passed on to Brunswick charities in accordance with the donor’s wishes. Both the general liability and the D&O insurance has been paid.

Michelle will be meeting with Beth in May to determine the financial results of the BBQ event.

The treasurer’s report was approved.

Old business

Event updates

Shred Day – We collected over 6000 pounds of documents. An informal poll showed that this was how people hear of the event: Saw a flyer – 2; in the bank – 2; Citizen – 3; F/B – 7; word of mouth  – 1. Several people noted the lack of an ad in the Citizen during the prior week.

Beer and Pizza – Tuesday July 25; GBACC members will be given a wrist band for pizza and a drink ticket for a first half-pint. We anticipate the expense will be similar to last year’s event (~$300). Non-members may attend but will be charged (amount to be determined) for the beer and pizza

Membership meeting – Monday, June 12 in the Lee Smith Room at the Museum. The results of the board retreat will be presented and there will be a general discussion of plans. There will be drinks and snacks.

Museum Reception – we will not proceed with the idea.


Biz 101 – There will be classes in September and October on “Digital Strategy” (Michelle will arrange with Jill Kurtz) and “Making money in the gig economy” by Callie. Another class by Illumine8 on using social media will be in early 2018

Beer and Pizza – Date set for July 25th (see above)

Welcome Totes –  Businesses will be asked to provide contents for the totes by Wednesday, May 24. Ellis will review the newsletter article and check with Angel about the drop-off at city hall. Callie will prepare the postcard to be sent to the March and April arrivals. The postcards will be mailed by June 1 with a deadline to pick up the tote by June 30. For the first month, the pickup will be at Brunswick Hardware as a test case. Other businesses will be selected for July and August.

New business

Board Retreat — will be held on Saturday June 3 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The retreat will be divided into 3 parts:

  1. Budget -review all areas and assess assigned amounts
  2. Plans-(should probably call this something different) discus goals of GBACC, vision statement, set some dates to work on website and images
  3. Calendar-discuss quarterly events

A more detailed agenda and packet of documents will be emailed about 2 weeks before the retreat.  The retreat will make recommendations to the full board on the topics listed.
